JOB TITLE:  HEALTH & NUTRITION COORDINATOR                                                                   LOCATION:  Orlando, FL                                                                     DEPARTMENT:   HEAD START/ EARLY HEAD START/CHILD CARE PARTNERSHIP

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides oversight of Health and Nutrition for the HS/EHS/CCP programs. Ensures the appropriate and timely provision of health and nutrition, services to Head Start/Early Head Start children. Assures integration, coordination and accountability to ensure that the children have a safe, nurturing, secure, and quality environment as required in Head Start Performance Standards.   Assists with the development and implementation of staff development plans, training, and technical assistance, in collaboration with the Program Managers, other program areas, and the Human Resource Generalist.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

 

  • Plan, develop, and administer the 4C Head Start health and nutrition services, to ensure an integrated and comprehensive system of services for children and families (All services should be in the Community Resource Directory)
  • Submit monthly reports on time; maintain up-to-date records and schedules, and reporting systems, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Meet 4C Childcare Food Program goals and objectives; ensure 100% program compliance with the Head Start Program, Head Start Performance Standards, and 90-day health requirements.
  • Participate in the annual program Self-Assessment; provide support in the development of Program Improvement Plans and Training & Technical Assistance Plans.
  • Prepare the annual budget refunding application for the Community Assessment.
  • Ensure that direct staff comply with spending levels, procurement policies, and inventory control.
  • Assists with the coordination, facilitation and implementation of the planning, and ordering, of USDA approved meals.
  • Negotiate and develop written agreements and/or contracts with service providers; maintain contracts with the nutrition consultant, and public and private vendors.
  • Identify health, dental, emergency and nutrition service resources, develop a written follow-up plan, and arrange re-screening, further diagnostic testing, examination, and treatment for each child who have medical, dental or nutritional problems.
  • Assist with parent training, and community awareness events, on topics regarding health and nutrition.
  • Seek In-Kind (donated time, services, products) or cash (grant opportunities, state or local funding) helping the program to meet its 20% non-federal share requirement.
  • Conduct in-service training for professional staff: review special diet plans, present latest research on nutrition, and introduce new practices and services.
  • Obtain signed parental consent, and release of information, for all health, dental, and nutritional services, provided to children by the program, or contracted service providers; provide results in writing.
  • Organize and facilitate the activities of the agency's Health Services Advisory Committee (HSAC); ensure that the Committee membership has all required professional and parent representation.
  • Transition children with incomplete medical/dental treatment, or ongoing medical needs, to services at their next program.
  • Participate in the Agency’s Quality Improvement Program.

 

 

 

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s degree in area of supervision or closely related field such as Health Services Administration, Public Health, Health             Sciences, Health Education, Nursing, or Nutrition. Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience. Three (3) years of experience in health care, preferably related to early childhood /preschool children.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language, verbally, and in writing (the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar).
  • Knowledge of business and management principles in leadership techniques, customer service, and coordination of people and resources. 
  • Specific knowledge in Early Childhood Education.
  • Ability to communicate Agency information effectively, to other staff, and outside representatives.
  • Demonstrate the capability of working under pressure, while remaining professional.
  • Ability to conduct information analysis and effective problem solving.
  • Ability to supervise and work effectively with children, parents and staff.
  • Knowledge of internet navigation and basic computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of the Child Plus software system.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills in organization and time management.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of agency terminology, including the Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Policies and Procedures, and all other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to understand, process, and facilitate the implementation of the requirements outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards, and all other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work and communicate with people from various multi-cultural backgrounds and socio- economic levels-Sensitivity to the needs, abilities, beliefs, and attitudes of individuals within and outside the Agency, including but not limited to customers and co-workers.
