POSITION: Application Support Specialist

RESPONSIBLE TO: Information Systems (IS) Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: The primary role of the Application Support Specialist is to provide assistance to the Information Systems Department in its mission to support physicians and staff in the use of the company’s software applications.  This position will receive instruction and work very closely with the IS Supervisor to achieve the best and most efficient use of software applications.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two-year degree required
  • Bachelor degree preferred

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two plus years of work experience in orthopaedics using medical practice and business software applications; familiar with health practice operations and patient flow
  • At least 1 year of experience, working with healthcare applications; specifically, GE Centricity Practice Management (GPMS) and IBM Cognos Analyzer
  • At least 1 year of experience, working with Exscribe EHR, preferably in an Administrative role
  • One plus years of experience working with HL7 interface design and development 
  • One plus years of work experience in data analysis, decision support, business analysis, requirements documenting
  • One plus years of work experience with Meaningful Use regulations and standards (MIPS)
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with executives, managers, physicians, and subject matter experts
  • Ability to think analytically and problem solve
  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Application / Software Support - As Requested:

  • Assist IS Supervisor with Practice Management / EHR software upgrades and test modifications prior to release to end-user production
  • Analyze business processes and report to IS Supervisor as needed to ensure proper system use and configuration
  • Log, track and resolve practice application issues as well as software modifications or enhancements
  • Troubleshoot issues/problems with the EHR and GPMS Practice Management software
  • Analyze and implement EHR form change requests to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
  • Modify physician favorites and/or templates within the EHR software, as approved by the IS Supervisor
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and review of software applications; identify problems and develop appropriate solutions
  • Understand new features within the software applications and recommend solutions that are in line with the practice’s operations

    Office / Physician Support - As Requested by IS Supervisor:

  • Resolve duplicate account information within both the Practice Management and EHR software
  • Provide multilevel application support to user questions and/or issues, including features of the Practice Management and EHR solutions
  • Write and troubleshoot reports in Analyzer for the Director of Revenue Cycle Management
  • Create and maintain user information for insurance eligibility websites
  • Create and maintain user accounts for the both the computer and software applications; includes disabling accounts when employees are terminated
  • Coordinate and resolve tasks related to Information System procurement activities
  • Answer and return customer calls for support of IS applications

    Training / Documentation Support – As Requested:

  • Develop and conduct application training sessions for various job functions within the organization
  • Provide remote training to Physicians in both one-on-one and small group settings
  • Develop and maintain user documentation to aid in training
  • Develop and maintain user documentation on operational processes and process improvement practices

    General Administration – As Requested:

  • Attend continuing education courses that represent the best interests of the company
  • Perform all other tasks requested by the IS Supervisor

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Typical Physical Demands

    Position requires extended sitting, some standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.  Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required.  Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.  Employee may work under stressful conditions and may work irregular hours.

    Typical Working Conditions

Normal office environment.  Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
