Bus Driver

Seeking some extra money for the holidays? Seminole State College of Florida has a great part-time opportunity to transport our athletic teams and other groups on our "brand new" Raider Bus!

Pay Benefits and Work Schedule: $16.49 hourly. 

Responsibilities:

The Bus Driver provides safe and reliable transportation for Seminole State College groups, organizations and athletic teams for games, meetings, events, performances, and training. Maintains cleanliness, refuels the bus and performs routine checks for maintenance and safety.

Seminole State Bus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Drives large passenger bus (approximately 40 passengers) from Seminole State to other campus locations and destinations.
  2. Performs pre and post trip inspections of the bus to ensure proper operating conditions, compliance with safety standards and adherence to Department of Transportation standards.
  3. Records events, mileage and other information in the vehicle log.
  4. Maintains fuel and fluid levels in the bus.
  5. Makes recommendations for service and maintenance of the bus as needs become apparent.
  6. Provides routine basic cleaning of the vehicle.
  7. Takes bus for maintenance and repair when needed.
  8. Maintains safe driver designation and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
  9. Possesses and maintains a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
  10. Coordinates efforts to arrange repairs and/or alternate transportation and ensure passenger safety and comfort in the event of a mechanical breakdown or other roadside incident.
  11. Loads and unloads baggage, equipment and other supplies from bus storage compartments.
  12. Performs all site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possession of current valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
2. Ability to meet all required Florida and federal requirements of vehicle operation (49 C. F. R. Part 40, etc.)
3. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
4. Clean driving record (DUI conviction is not acceptable) that meets the College’s insurance carrier’s requirements.
5. Experience driving groups of passengers.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Previous experience driving sports teams.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES (KSAs):

  1. Ability to safely operate a large passenger bus.
  2. Acceptable hearing and eyesight to maintain CDL license.
  3. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  4. Knowledge of basic large vehicle maintenance.
  5. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.
  6. Demonstrates a courteous, professional demeanor.
  7. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITY ASSESSMENT:
Per College Policy 1.020 and 2.020, and College Procedure 2.0350:

  1. Final hire/appointment of a candidate offered employment in this position is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a job-related physical ability assessment.
  2. Current employees may be referred for a job-related physical ability assessment or reassessment upon their supervisor’s recommendation and subsequent approval by the Office of Human Resources, or upon the recommendation of the Office of Human Resources.

This position requires candidates receiving an offer of employment to undergo a drug/alcohol test before beginning work. Individuals who fail the test will not be hired.  Refusal to submit to testing will result in disqualification of further employment consideration.

WORK CONDITIONS and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  1. Works flexible hours including evenings, nights and weekends.
  2. Work requires travel outside the local area, sometimes for overnight trips.
