SUMMARY

For This Position:

• Perform a variety of complex clerical duties related to federal, state, and local payroll tax payments. Run reports to determine the tax payment amount by state and locality, complete proper state and local tax payment coupons, maintain accurate payment log, records, and files, and authorize checks to be printed or electronic transfers to be made in accordance with individual state and local payment deadlines.

• Research, reconcile, and verify tax payments to assure accuracy, completion, and compliance with legal and procedural requirements; monitor withholdings and other records throughout the calendar year and make adjustments or corrections as necessary.

• Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.

• Communicate with state departments of revenue concerning amendments, corrections, or tax related questions.

• Prepare and maintain an audit file for hourly and salaried payrolls to verify correct compensation rates and to ensure that paychecks accurately reflect hours reported on timesheets.

• Respond to issues and questions and provide information to employees, supervisors and others; interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Compare, audit and verify numerical data and financial documents; detect, trace, and correct errors and discrepancies; adjust accounts and data in accordance with ministry, state and federal laws and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Financial and statistical record keeping techniques and alpha-numeric filing systems.

• Research methods and problem solving

• Operation of normal office equipment, including personal computer, with word processing and spreadsheet software 

• Preparation, maintenance, verification and processing of payroll records.

• PeopleSoft HR

 ABILITY TO:  

• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with others.

• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Work independently with little direction or supervision.

• Work confidentially with discretion.

• Learn, apply and explain rules and policies related to federal, state and local tax assessment.

• Reconcile, balance and audit assigned accounts and records.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

AA degree plus 1-3 years’ in payroll processing or related administrative functions or equivalent combination of education and experience.
