Pediatric Genetic Counselor - Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

 

We are looking for 2 full time genetic counselors to join our busy pediatric genetics practice atArnold Palmer Hospital for Children, an Orlando Health hospital. Our pediatric geneticcounselors provide services in outpatient genetics clinics, multidisciplinary specialty clinics, andinpatient consults at Winnie Palmer and Arnold Palmer Hospitals. As an integral part of one ofthe largest neonatal intensive care units in the country, the genetics practice at Orlando Healthprovides an excellent opportunity to experience a clinically diverse patient population. Our newhire will be a part of our growing team, consisting of one pediatric genetic counselor, fourgeneticists, genetics nurse practitioner, genetic counseling assistant, metabolic dietitian,registered nurse, clinic coordinator, and social worker. Our pediatric counselors also work veryclosely with Orlando Health genetic counselors in the prenatal and cancer settings.

Responsibilities:

Provide assessment, diagnosis, and counseling.

Assist in the management of patients and families with known genetic disorders, andof patients at-risk for the development of these disorders.

Analyze and interpret clinical/laboratory findings.

Disclose normal and abnormal results to patients, families, and referring physicians.

Intervene as a crisis and bereavement counselor in situations involving genetic diagnoses.

Advise and assist staff upon the appropriateness of patient referrals and requisitemedical records.

Write clinic notes and other documentation for the electronic medical record system.

Obtain and review medical records.

Supervise genetic counseling students and provide genetic education to rotatingmedical students, residents, and fellows.

Requirements:

Board certification or board eligibility through ABGC

Masters degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program prior to start date.
