Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Performing, assigning, directing, and inspecting the work of facilities painters, including answering questions and resolving problems related to the department.
  • Planning, performing, preparing, and coordinating all painting/staining projects of the College which may include the following:
  • Interiors and exteriors of buildings and structures with brush, roller, or spray equipment.
  • Pressure washing buildings, structures, and sidewalks in preparation of project.
  • Painting traffic markings on campus roads and parking areas.
  • Utilizing spray booth and sprayers to paint furniture or equipment.
  • Mixing and blending paints and stains.
  • Maintaining painting tools and equipment in working order.
  • Keeping materials and supplies in stock, ordering supplies ahead of work.
  • Performing incidental and related duties such as plastering and dry wall work.
  • Keeping paint shop, storage areas, and assigned paint shop vehicles in clean working order.
  • Assisting with event staging set-ups as required.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.
  • Keeping record of all paint projects including paint information used for historical data.
  • Performing other relevant departmental duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of 6-10 years of job-related experience.
  • Requires a valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory MVR to operate college vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the standards, methods, materials, and tools of the painting trade.
  • Ability to supervise, direct, and train the work of apprentices, helpers, and other painters assigning duties on a daily priority basis.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting up to 50lbs and climb ladders.
  • Skill and care in using shop tools and equipment of the painting trade.
  • Ability to prepare/interpret and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including use and training of proper PPE.
  • Ability to use computers for email, work orders, and paint department data storage is required.
  • Demonstrates cross-cultural awareness and communication skills to maximize effective collaboration across diverse groups on-campus.
  • Physical role requiring heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending twisting, and kneeling. Prolonged standing and walking to various areas around campus to access and clean rooms, including climbing stairs.
  • Modeling and delivering Rollins’ service philosophy through competent, collaborative, responsive and respectful service to others.
  • Demonstrates ability to work professionally with staff, faculty, students and external constituents at all levels.
  • Exhibits sound judgment and the ability to make reasonable decisions in the absence of direction.
  • Demonstrates ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities without loss of composure.
  • Demonstrates ability to balance conflicting priorities in order to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrates ability to determine the appropriate allocation of time to complete tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrates proficiency to quickly adapt to workplace changes and learn new skills (i.e. technology, processes, tasks, projects, etc...)
  • Perform all job responsibilities safely using painting equipment.
  • Comply with all department policies, procedures and service delivery expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule:

The Painting Supervisor is scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm (with a 1 hour paid lunch)

Maintenance positions will be required to carry on call phone 2-3 times per year for periods of 7 days. This includes working a Saturday from 7-3pm with the following Friday off if desired, some major Holiday weekends may not be required.

As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call in outside of regular hours in order to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of College facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.

*Works overtime, special events and weekends may be required as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Works on-campus at multiple work sites including indoors and outdoors.
  • Work requires physical exertion and exposure to both hot and cold weather.
  • Physical ability to handle, lift and/or carry heavy objects and equipment.
  • Must be punctual and reliable; daily attendance is required.
