Position Purpose

This role develops and implements our North America PR and external communications plans to increase CHEP brand awareness with our key targets including media, customers, and industry partners, through various events, engagements, interviews and other public facing opportunities. Through industry engagement, development of executive communications, thought leadership programs and tailored communications, this role shapes CHEP’s corporate narrative to achieve business objectives.

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Drive CHEP’s corporate narrative and thought leader platforms through key, influential and targeted activities in the market.
  • Oversee North America PR efforts, including managing PR agency, to ensure outreach is consistent and aligned with overall company objectives. 
  • Implement and manage PR plan and calendar, including audience segment, key messages, timing and distribution. Ensure plan is aligned with appropriate internal stakeholders and overall North America content strategy.
  • Build and cultivate strong trusted advisor relationships with key internal stakeholders, including preparing executive leadership team for media interviews, speaking opportunities and supporting byline creation.
  • Align with commercial team members and leverage customer interactions for storytelling opportunities of CHEP’s unique branding, program and GTM stories. When necessary, conduct in-depth research on industry-related topics to develop original long-form content.
  • Lead writing, editing, revising integrated marketing content with internal and external partners such as bylines, white papers, awards, blog articles, web content, speech writing, customer stories, thought leadership pieces, etc.
  • Monitors and measures key metrics to ensure effectiveness of communications; adjusts plans and approach based on results achieved.
  • Serve as day-to-day PR agency contact; brainstorm stories and angles to share with media and external audiences.
  • Support global communications programs, adapting for regional needs as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across North America and globally to promote consistency, knowledge sharing and best practices including managing bi-weekly global call.
  • Manage and develop industry association relationships, including partnership opportunities, to deliver business objectives.
  • Own the North America tradeshow and events annual calendar and manage to budget.
  • Plan, develop and execute supporting marketing and promotional materials (media opportunities, talking points, strategic messaging) for  exhibiting trade shows and coordinate logistics with attending staff; serve as main contact to exhibit house.
  • Maintain return on objective reports for PR and exhibiting trade show activities, partnering with marketing operations where needed.
  • Lead pre and post-show discussions with marketing and show attendees to establish key objectives, relevant metrics, budget, integrated marketing tactics and key deliverables.
  • Regularly work across matrixed organization to deliver results.

  • Reach and audience engagement of PR initiatives utilizing desired narrative and proof points

  • Communication completion (timeliness, achieving goal, etc)

Authority/ Decision Making

  • Development of media targets and tactics to drive awareness
  • Angle for storytelling- including selecting appropriate leader or to develop and share stories externally
  • Strategic counsel to senior leadership
  • Ownership of trade show calendar including booth development, development of appropriate talking points and collateral
  • Relevant messaging and creative development needed by channel or by event

Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required, B.A./B.S. in Public Relations or Communications
  • 5-7 years’ experience in public relations and/or content development
  • Experience with Cision, Business Wire, Adobe Creative Suite a plus

Skills and Knowledge

  • Superb AP style writing, editing and storytelling skills
  • Media relations experience, preferably in an agency environment or as a client directly working with a global PR agency
  • Ability to facilitate collaboration and teamwork between colleagues across the organization
  • Experience writing for a corporate environment and turning complex information into relevant, engaging, timely and valuable content
  • Trade show, events and logistics experience  
  • Effective collaborator
  • Proactive, self-starter who can work independently
  • Ability to work cross functionally in a matrixed environment
  • Ability to interface with executive team (has executive presence)
  • Knowledge of supply chain and/or B2B industrial markets a plus
  • Proven financial/budget management
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization and application in digital marketing channels is a plus
