Surgical Technician - Jewett Orthopedic Institute – Downtown Complex

This position will be located at our brand new 375,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art facility on the Orlando Health downtown campus and throughout the community at our outpatient clinics and sports partnership locations.

Shift: Per Diem/Pool


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
  • Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
  • Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
  • Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
  • Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
  • In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
  • Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
  • Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
  • Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and /or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
  • Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
  • In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of:
    • Surgical Technology Training Program

OR

    • Orlando Health Surgical Technician Training Program

Licensure/Certification:

  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Experience:

  • Four (4) years surgical technician experience.
    • Surgical Technician Certification and two (2) years of surgical technician experience may substitute for the required experience.
