Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

 

Position Summary

Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has been providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin's Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital has earned national recognition for 11 consecutive years as a “Best Children's Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and designation for three consecutive years as a “Top Children's Hospital” by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.

Administers anesthesia and anesthesia related care in collaboration and consultation with attending anesthesiologists in the operating room and satellite areas.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Participates in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation.
  • Performs pre-anesthetic assessment prior to each procedure as directed by attending anesthesiologist.
  • Formulates a patient specific anesthetic plan of care in collaboration with attending anesthesiologist.
  • Determines, prepares, and ensures necessary medications, equipment, and adjunct therapies for administration of anesthetics.
  • Initiates plan of anesthesia care (general, regional, monitored sedation) under the supervision of attending anesthesiologist.
  • Prepares and tests anesthesia equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Inserts and/or uses invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices for continuous evaluation of patient's status under anesthesia.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in monitoring and management of airway; cardiovascular, pulmonary, and neuromuscular status; and emergence and recovery from an anesthetic
  • Supervises, instructs, and evaluates student nurse anesthetists and instructs interns/residents/allied health personal in procedures and techniques of general anesthesia.
  • Maintains legible, accurate and complete medical records for each anesthetic administered.
  • Transfers responsibility for care of the patient to other qualified providers post operatively. Insures continuity of care and patient safety.
  • Adheres to patient and personnel safety procedures (infection control, fire, safety electrical and chemical hazards).
  • Perform post-anesthesia evaluations as directed by attending anesthesiologist.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with maintenance of equipment and cleans work areas. Reports necessary equipment repairs and adjustments via proper channels.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams to enhanced patient safety and quality delivery of anesthesia care.
  • Participates in the quality assessment processes developed by Orlando Health and the Anesthesia Department of APMC.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Meets all educational requirements to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and a Florida licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).

Licensure/Certification

  • Meets all of the following:
    • Maintains current Florida Nursing License - Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).
    • Certified as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Current National Advanced Practice Certification from a nursing specialty board recognized by the Florida Board of Nursing (i.e., Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists, or Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists, or their Predecessors)
    • Maintains current certification in Healthcare Provider/BLS, ACLS and PALS.
