Job Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including overview of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, variance analyses, including grant reporting and analysis, and cash flow projections for review by management and stakeholders.
- Perform regular reconciliations of grant receipts to cash received and general ledger.
- Reconcile and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts by gathering, researching and balancing information. Evaluate subsidiary accounts for obvious errors and omissions and enter corrected data into the general ledger.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process by providing historical data, analyzing trends, and identifying opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants to facilitate year-end audits and tax filings.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and accounting standards relevant to non for profits.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements to streamline accounting workflows and enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with the cross function departments and other users to design and develop process improvements and to automate and centralize processes.
- Prepare assigned audit schedules, account reconciliations, and month-end journal entries.
- Collaborate with Accounting department leadership to create or modify policies and procedures to ensure that the Association's accounting practices are in compliance and being maintained.
- Assist external auditors at year-end by responding to inquiries regarding assigned accounts.
- Complete special projects as directed by the Accounting leadership.
- Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor and follow the Association's current employee and member injury reporting procedures.
- All other duties as assigned by management
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance in non for profit organization, with a demonstrated progression of increasing responsibility.
- Advanced in Microsoft Excel; experience with Netsuites and/or Quickbooks is a plus.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and familiarity with non for profit industry standards.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Non-profit grant and/or contracts experience; a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be willing to travel within Central Florida when needed. Must have a valid Driver license. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction.
- Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment.
- The employee must be able to perform light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity, along with the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer screen, extensive reading, or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
- Must possess auditory and verbal capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
- The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
